Quilting group meets every 1st and 3rd Tuesday morning here in Calvin’s basement from 10:00 a.M. – 3:00 p.M.

You are welcome to bring your sewing machine and lunch and join them. The Calvin Quilters’ aim is to provide quilts, of varying sizes and many colours, to children who are in unhappy circumstances. Bringing warmth to those receiving the quilts, purpose to our crafting, enjoyment in our friendships and exchange as fellow-workers, and joy in doing all this as apprentices of our God, the great CREATOR, CRAFTER and COLOURIST.

Ministry Highlights

1.     Can you describe this ministry to us please?  What is it’s purpose?

Calvin Quilting is a group of people who love quilting and/or socializing. We have various skill levels and various interests but we all enjoy each other’s company.

2.     How often does it meet, and where?

We meet in the basement of the Church on the first, third (and if there is a fifth) Tuesday of the month from around 10 am to 2 pm.  We each bring our own tools and lunches.

3.     What do you do on/during a typical meeting time?

We set up our own machines and other tools and we chat as we work.  Many quilts are made for the children at a local women’s shelter but sometimes people work on their own projects.  There is a cupboard full of donated fabrics for making quilts for the shelter and we usually have batting on hand too.  We also have an iron and board that we share, so that does not need to be brought every time.

4.      How do you think this ministry fits into the vision of Calvin  “to become more passionate followers of Jesus Christ, used by God to transform lives through confident outreach, wholehearted worship, enfolding fellowship and lifelong discipleship?”

We certainly take pleasure in the fellowship that we share as we work.  Of course, conversations touch on many aspects of life, and often there is mutual encouragement in our discipleship and through our difficulties.  We have also developed a degree of partnership with the shelter over the years and we are listed as contributors to their operations.

5.     Do you have a story about how this ministry has impacted those who are participating in it? <

I don’t think I can get into specifics but this group has been a refuge for the lonely, the isolated, or the grieving.  We are also told that the recipients at the shelter are very appreciative of the quilts.

6.     How can we assist this ministry and pray for it? <

We welcome newcomers and we would love to use our group as an opportunity to share our faith with whomever God would call.
If you would like to know more about how you can participate in this ministry, please contact the church office at office@calvincrc.ca  and our office manager will put you in touch with the coordinators.
